12 Days of Christ: Day 5

 A Gift to Give

Liz Lemon Swindle, Swaddling

Today was the ward Christmas activity where we donated onesies to Joyful Welcome for the preemies and newborns in the hospital.

...When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God

- Mosiah 2:17

Christmastime is a time of giving gifts. This tradition hearkens back to when the Wise Men gave Jesus the gifts of frankincense, gold, and myrrh. Sometimes we may feel like there is not enough money to give the kind of gift we want to give, but there is something we do have to give - it is the gift of self. Jesus Christ was born on this earth because He loves us more than His own life, and He was willing to come here to live for each one of us, to atone for each one of us, to die for each one of us, and to rise for each one of us. We can show gratitude for His gift to us by giving of ourselves to others, whether it's a smile, a listening ear (or eye), a hug, a little bit of time, a prayer, or a song. There is always something we can give.

"The Little Drummer Boy" lyrics

Written by Katherine Kennicott Davis

Come they told me
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
A newborn king to see
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum

Our finest gifts we bring
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
To lay before the King
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
Rum, pum, pum, pum
Rum, pum, pum, pum

So to honor Him
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
When we come

Baby Jesus
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
I am a poor boy too
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum

I have no gift to bring
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
That's fit to give our King
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
Rum, pum, pum, pum
Rum, pum, pum, pum

Shall I play for you
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
On my drum?

Mary nodded
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
The ox and lamb kept time
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum

I played my drum for Him
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
I played my best for Him
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
Rum, pum, pum, pum
Rum, pum, pum, pum

Then He smiled at me
Pa, rum, pum, pum, pum
Me and my drum
