12 Days of Christ: Day 2

She Shall Bring Forth a Son

Liz Lemon Swindle, She Shall Bring Forth a Son

"God's plan for Mary was not something she had asked for!" (Strathearn, Gaye. "Mary, the Mother of Jesus." Ensign)  She probably had a million questions running through her mind and had a jumble of emotions in her heart when she found out she would be the mother of the Son of God. She probably didn't know what the future would hold, and what it would be like to raise Jesus. However, the appearance of Gabriel probably gave her reassurance in the fact that he came to her from the Lord, and she most likely received guidance in how to raise Jesus, just like many righteous mothers nowadays do. Her example of courage and strength, despite the unknown, should be an example for us as mothers, as sisters in Relief Society, as women. How often in our lives do things come that we didn't expect and most certainly didn't ask for? We should remember that the Lord is with us, He always will be when we trust Him and believe Him. "Gabriel’s declaration is a reminder to disciples in every age that when we respond to God’s invitations, miracles can take place." (Strathearn)

At The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square Christmas concert in December 2018, guest star Kristin Chenoweth sang a beautiful song:

"Mary, Did You Know?"

Written by Mark Lowry, 1984

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will save our sons and daughters?

Did you know that your baby boy
Has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will calm a storm with His hand?

Did you know that your baby boy
Has walked where angels trod?
When you kissed your little baby
You've kissed the face of God

The blind will see, the deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will one day rule the nations?

Did you know that your baby boy
Is Heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding
Is the great "I Am"
